Some assembly required

I was interested in practicing Mindfulness, as I realized in hearing about it that it resembled a concept I was actually practicing when I got into hiking without realizing it. The reviews indicated this book provided a guide for actual practice instead of simply presenting Mindfulness as a theory or science, so I bought it.
I began reading the book from beginning to end, but realized during the chapter on various meditations that I really wasn't getting started, leaving me a tad frustrated. So I jumped ahead to the chapter that presented the 8 week mindfulness course, and I was able to actually get started. Each week is given its own section, and you're presented with interesting concepts to consider, along with exercises to do for that week. You do have to jump to other chapters to learn how to do the meditations you have to do, which means you're having to go back and forth throughout the book in order to put everything together. I wish the book had simply been organized to flow with the 8 week mindfulness course.
To be fair, the authors do tell you that you can go to whatever section is of interest to you, but that's not helpful for a beginner. They do a good job cross-referencing the material. So you're not completely tossed into the weeds trying to gather the material. I found the introductory material I had read beforehand very helpful in putting the 8 week course into context, so that wasn't wasted. I'm currently working through Week 2, and I'm finding that this practice is really altering the way I'm going through my life, though I'm still struggling with negative thoughts at the moment that I hope will be addressed as I go through the full 8 weeks. I've even peeked ahead at the chapter on dealing with difficult emotions, so I know things will come together in time.
The exercises are well explained, and the plentiful worksheets you should complete are incredibly helpful. The book is really well written once you've oriented yourself to the book's organization, and it includes lots of clear examples and useful sidebars. If you're interested in doing the 8 week session, read Chapters 1-4, then jump ahead and get started with Chapter 7. Go to the other parts of the book, such as learning how to do a specific meditation, as they're referenced. (See edit below: I also recommend including Loving Kindness at Week 6)
Edit: I'm about to begin Week 6 of the Eight Week course, and I still haven't been introduced to the Loving Kindness Meditation. That meditation is actually described earlier in the book, but it's not incorporated into the Eight Week course. I plan to introduce it into my Sixth Week schedule, and I highly recommend folks attempting the Eight Weeks to do likewise.

Excellent Book on Mindfulness!

"Dummies" books always provide a thorough foundation of knowledge and that is definitely true for this book, "Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies." I have this book on my Kindle and have it in hardcover as well. It is an excellent teaching guide to mindfulness basics and provides much more. The authors do a superb job of explaining what mindfulness is and providing worksheets to help stimulate mindful growth and understanding of this ancient approach to living which has been researched and found to be very beneficial in reducing many types of conditions, medical and psychological. I have been studying mindfulness for awhile now and find this book to greatly enhance my understanding of mindfulness. This is a valuable resource guide to keep handy to refer back to. Easy-to-read and understand, with bullet points and highlighted tips for quick absorption of information. This book will help you take your mindfulness practice to a new level and build your mindful skill set. I encourage you to purchase it and experience for yourself, the value of mindfulness in today's stressful world!
