No growth from Mack, finally gave up on her

I was hopeful going into this book. Mack had shown signs of growth and maturity toward the end of the previous book, and I hoped this book would continue her down the path to being a reasonable human being.

However, that was not to be. We continue to see the same hot-tempered Mack with no foresight, planning or even awareness of consequences for her actions until after it was too late. After two and a half books it's clear that she's not going to show any meaningful growth.

I've also realized how similar the characters and their personalities are to the characters in Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series - however, Andrews' characters successfully pull off the personalities that Harper was trying for here. Strongly recommend that you give that series a try if you haven't yet (though maybe start with book 2 instead of book 1).

need to move on

Ok I enjoy the plot of the heroine who stumbles through things because of her ignorance. I like how she tries to help everyone but herself. However her doing things on her own and not being able to control herself gets old. I stopped at 56% because of the fact she is in denial and hasn't moved on . The story keeps going over the same problems with no solution because she is to weak and afraid. I feel like we are dealing with a child instead of an adult. I'm still wondering when we will get to the part where she gets over her denial to get to the point of what she is and learns something new. Quite frankly I'm done and I hope the future books were more knowledgeable and less ignorant.

A little too rushed

I don't want anyone to misinterpret the 3 as a bad score. I still love the author, and love the characters. But the author is stuck in a rut with the two main characters... The constant push pull is unrealistic at this point, she ends the last book with them not hating each other, and then this book, every dialog is a 'we are cool now, thanks' and a 'man I dislike you keep away from me, we will fight about this.'

This was good for two books, but at this point it is making the main character seem more immature than Corrigan by far. While the author also tries to present a reason for this, her being worried that he just uses girls and throws them away. It still does not present her in a positive light. And the rapid shift from her being boiling mad, to the calm one is just... A bit of a throw off from the previous novels. She pushes it a bit too hard in this one.

I do enjoy the series, and I love the characters, but this one was a bit harder for me to get into than the rest. I hope the next one changes my opinion a bit.

Standing the Test of Time as the best book on Pine Ridge Ghost Dance of 1890

Although it has been many years since I read this book, I have continued to reference it. The books relating to Wounded Knee that have come along since LAST DAYS was published in the 1960s don't measure up in terms of dispassionate and balanced analysis, nor in exploring the sources to the extent that Mr. Utley does. In fact, this book could be used in Historiography classes as an examples of how to write objective history and shown to students in all fields of history as a stellar example of such.

Utley explores the underlying causes that gave rise to the Ghose Dance religion, from the Dawes Act to the actions of an immoral Congress that reneged on food allotments for the Lakota and then turned an indifferent eye to their plight. He examines the military build up at Pine Ridge and the Lakota response, detailing especially the Seventh Cavalry which I found most useful. All of this culminates with the tragedy at Wounded Knee. It is especially noteworthy that he then includes an entire chapter on the Drexel Mission battle that happened the day after Wounded Knee and is generally overlooked in other treatments of the Pine Ridge campaign. The early 1891 death of Lt. Casey is also covered. Also recommended: Rex Alan Smith's MOON OF THE POPPING TREES and the recently published VOICES OF THE AMERICAN WEST, the two volumes of the compiled interview notes of Judge Eli Ricker who talked to soldiers, settlers and Indians about Wounded Knee.

ONE USUALLY SEARCHES IN VAIN FOR AN AN EVEN HANDED NON PARTISAN ACCOUNT OF THIS SAD EVENT. MR. UTLEY APPEARS TO DO JUST THIS IN HIS 1963 PRESENTATION WHICH IS EMPATHETIC YET FACT DRIVEN. HE PROVIDES DIRECT EVIDENCE, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT BIG FOOT'S WARRIORS WERE WELL ARMED & DID INDEED COMMENCE FIRE ON FORSYTH'S 7TH CAVALRY AT POINT BLANK RANGE. MILITARY ARCHIVAL DATA PROVIDES LITTLE SUPPORT FOR THE WIDESPREAD MYTH THAT MOST MILITARY CASUALTIES WERE INFLICTED BY FRIENDLY FIRE. SIOUX COMBATANTS INFLICTED DEATH BY GUNFIRE ON 25 7TH CAVALRY TROOPERS. A FACT SELDOM REPORTED BY "MASSACRE" PROPONENTS WAS THAT SIOUX COMBATANTS WERE INTERSPERSED WITH NON COMBATANTS DURING THE MELEE. ONLY ONE OF FOUR AVAILABLE HOTCHKISS ARTILLERY PIECES WERE EMPLOYED TO CONTAIN THE RAPIDLY EXPANDING BATTLE. THE SIOUX DID IN FACT APPEAR TO BE "PLAYERS" IN THIS BATTLE.

What is unique in this book is that it has the Gödel cosmological solution to

the general relativity equations. It has a good coverage of Weyl's gauge

equations as well and a discussion of the

topological implications of black holes.

The mathematics is well done and relatively easy to follow.

This text is a classic text on gravity theory.

My Favorite Book on General Relativity

This second edition of the Adler, Bazin and Schiffer book is nothing short of miraculous. I have read it off and on for 25 years, and I always manage to learn something new from it. Although it cannot compete with the more recent texts on post-Newtonian mechanics, everything is here for the advanced undergraduate/beginning graduate student: tensor calculus; Riemannian and non-Riemannian geometries; tensor applications in electrodynamics; variational methods; Schwarzschild and Kerr spacetimes; Killing vectors; and much, much more. An entire chapter is devoted to Weyl's gauge-invariant theory and Wheeler's "already unified" field theory. If you have been completely turned off by Misner-Wheeler-Thorne's Gravitation book (along with its somewhat pretentious and totally confusing annotations and sidebar material), and yet you still want to learn a decent amount of general relativity, buy this book while copies are still available. I'm still hoping that a third edition (with a chapter on computer applications) will eventually hit the shelves.

Lots of sweet recipes

You will find lots of sweet recipes in the Homemade Classic Desserts cookbook. The only downside is finding the recipes as this cookbook lacks an active table of contents. Some of the recipes you will find in this cookbook include:

Classic favorites for any age!

I've tried a couple of recipes from this great free book, and the first was the Impossible Pie. It sounded impossibly easy, but I was in the mood for a coconut custard pie after talking with some friends about how we missed old fashioned pie.
After making the recipe and getting multiple compliments on the texture and taste, I couldn't be more thrilled with this recipe. It was the easiest pie, no crust to fuss over, throw it all together in the blender, pour and bake.
It tasted incredible! Just like the childhood pies I remember, like my mother and grandmother made. Wonderful!

An Essay About Everything

I hate it when someone sees me reading a book and asks, "What's it about?" If the book is worth reading, it's about many things, and the person asking the question wants me to give him the answers without him having to do the work. It's like spending 2 hours doing algebra homework, and then some class clown wants to copy your answers! Sorry no deal! But I'll tell you what this book is about. It's about everything. It's about what it means to exist, to be alive in the world as an individual, as a member of a culture, and as a spiritual being in a spiritual world. It's about death and immortality, trust and love. It's an essay written in the dialect of fiction, without being sentimental. The style reminds me a bit of Hemingway, in the best possible sense. If you read it, your life will be richer for it. If you don't read it, I suppose you'll never know what you've missed.
